In mid-December, a rancher contacted Sheriff Kramer and reported the possible theft of 3 cows, 2 calves and an unbranded bull.  All of the animals were black angus and they were last seen in a pasture located on the northwest corner of Jeffery Lake.  The livestock had been missing for over a month, but the rancher had hopes they would turn up, possibly in someone else’s herd.  A deputy sheriff checked the area and found one cow dead.  An examination by a local veterinarian revealed the animal had been shot in the head.
